Atari's 50th Anniversary Celebration Expands with 39 More Classic Games
Atari, a pioneer in home video game consoles, is releasing an "Extended Edition" of its Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration collection later this year. This expanded version will include a whopping 39 additional classic Atari titles, significantly boosting the already impressive lineup of over 90 retro games. The original collection spanned titles from the Atari 2600 to the Atari Jaguar, and featured remasters of beloved games like Yar’s Revenge, Quadratank, and Haunted House.
Beyond the expanded game library, the Extended Edition will also feature two new interactive timelines. "The Wider World of Atari" will delve into the company's lasting influence on gaming, showcasing 19 playable games and eight video segments filled with interviews, vintage advertisements, and historical artifacts. This section was meticulously researched and compiled by Digital Eclipse.
The second new timeline, "The First Console War," recounts the legendary rivalry between the Atari 2600 and Mattel's Intellivision in the early 1980s. This section will feature 20 playable games and six video segments, offering a compelling narrative of this pivotal period in gaming history.
While the specific titles added in this expansion remain undisclosed, Atari hints at a deep dive into Berzerk and other lesser-known titles from the late 80s, as well as fan favorites from Mattel's M Network division.
