How challenging will it be to purchase a Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. at launch and throughout 2025? Doug Bowser, President of Nintendo of America, stated that the company expects to have sufficient inventory to satisfy consumer demand "through the holiday season."
In an interview with IGN about the new Nintendo San Francisco store opening, Bowser noted that although early response to the Switch 2 has been "strong," Nintendo has a strategy to maintain a "steady flow of stock" for the rest of 2025. The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5.
"Last week, [Nintendo President] Mr. [Shuntaro] Furukawa announced our forecast of 15 million units for the Nintendo Switch 2 and 4.5 million units for the original Nintendo Switch this fiscal year," Bowser explained.
"This projection is designed to align with the sales results we achieved with the original Switch during its initial ten months. For the U.S. market, we are confident our production and supply chain will be able to meet customer needs. We've observed strong early interest in the Switch 2, especially in pre-orders, and our plan ensures that supply will remain stable during the holiday shopping period."
This is welcome news for shoppers hoping to buy a Switch 2 in the U.S. this year. Pre-orders have been notably competitive. Following a delay due to tariff issues, pre-orders opened on April 24 with the console still priced at $449.99 — and availability quickly became tight. In addition, Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers who placed pre-orders through the My Nintendo Store that release-day delivery is not assured because of overwhelming interest.
Bowser's latest remarks, however, indicate that customers who successfully pre-ordered will receive a console. Refer to IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide for further details.
Separately, concerns have emerged about tariffs and whether Nintendo might need to increase the Switch 2’s price, as well as the cost of its games. When asked how committed the company is to the $450 price point at launch and beyond, Bowser offered a reassuring tone.

In response, Bowser kept details general but emphasized that Nintendo had "made a commitment" by announcing the Switch 2 at $450 and the Mario Kart World bundle at $500.
"We made a clear commitment by setting the price of the standard model at $449 and the bundle including Mario Kart World at $499," Bowser stated.
"We felt it was crucial to establish these prices, even after new tariffs were introduced, to give customers confidence in the retail cost. Of course, the situation remains dynamic, and it's hard to predict what might change in the coming weeks or months. Still, we are dedicated to working within current and evolving market conditions to make the Nintendo Switch 2, along with other products, as accessible as possible."
