Killer Instinct Gold Hits Nintendo Switch Online

Killer Instinct Gold has been added to the Nintendo Switch Online service as the latest N64 title available to subscribers.

This enhanced Nintendo 64 version of arcade fighter Killer Instinct 2 joins its predecessor in the growing collection of retro games accessible to Online Expansion Pack members.

Originally launched in 1996, Killer Instinct Gold was created by renowned British developer Rare, which produced numerous hit Nintendo titles including Donkey Kong Country, Goldeneye 007, and Perfect Dark. The game features a roster of 10 combatants with hundreds of custom combos across multiple gameplay modes.

While Rare and the Killer Instinct IP are now Microsoft-owned properties, this marks another Xbox Game Studios release on Switch. Despite the 2013 reboot of Killer Instinct for Xbox One, Microsoft has shown no signs of continuing the franchise with new installments.

Nintendo Switch Online provides members with access to classic games from Nintendo's history, including titles from NES, SNES, Game Boy, and N64 systems. The service's Expansion Pack tier will soon add GameCube titles when the Nintendo Switch 2 launches with its expanded classic game libraries. A 7-day free trial is available for new users.

Preorders for the Nintendo Switch 2 went live in April at $449.99, with demand exceeding expectations. While Nintendo has cautioned U.S. customers about potential shipping delays due to overwhelming preorder volume, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser assured players the company expects to maintain adequate stock throughout the holiday season.
