"Silent Hill f: A Fresh Start for New and Veteran Players, Konami Announces"

Author: Zoey Jun 27,2025

Silent Hill f is not a direct sequel to any prior entries in the Silent Hill series. Much like the iconic Silent Hill 2, it will present a standalone narrative described by Konami as "independent from the series." This official statement comes directly from the publisher, who confirmed on X/Twitter that the upcoming installment is being developed as "a completely new title" — one that newcomers can fully enjoy without prior experience in the franchise.

This narrative approach isn't entirely foreign to the Silent Hill universe. While titles such as Silent Hill 1, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill Origins are deeply interconnected, others — especially Silent Hill 2 — stand apart with self-contained stories. Even later entries like Silent Hill 4: The Room and Homecoming deviate from the traditional setting of the mysterious American town. However, this confirmation from Konami clearly establishes that an understanding of the broader, 26-year-old series won’t be necessary to appreciate the unique 1960s Japanese setting of Silent Hill f.

Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill f follows Shimizu Hinako, a young woman grappling with intense pressure from her peers, family, and society at large. The story is penned by Ryukishi07, the acclaimed writer behind the When They Cry visual novel series. As shown in the opening of the original Japanese-language reveal trailer released in March, the game has received an 18+ rating certification in Japan — marking it as the first entry in the Silent Hill series to do so.

While the game remains under active development and ratings are subject to change, previous entries like Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill: The Room were rated CERO:C (for ages 15+). Other international releases in the series typically received either a CERO:C or CERO:D (ages 17+) rating. Silent Hill f currently holds a Mature (M) rating in the United States, PEGI 18 in Europe, and CERO:Z in Japan — all aligning with its mature themes and content.

At this time, no official release date has been announced for Silent Hill f, and there has also been no new information revealed regarding No Code's upcoming Townfall, another anticipated entry in the storied horror franchise.
