The mind behind Stardew Valley, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has hinted at the possibility of creating a sequel to his beloved farming simulation game. In an interview with TigerBelly, he mentioned that while the idea of developing Stardew Valley 2 exists, it remains a distant prospect. Barone pointed out that enhancing the existing game feels far more manageable than embarking on the monumental task of crafting a brand-new title from scratch.
"The systems—the core ones—are already established," he explained. "Adding updates now is straightforward. It’s like throwing in new features or whimsical ideas, like green rain." Despite this, he admitted, "I might eventually make a Stardew Valley 2," leaving fans hopeful but realistic about its timeline.
In the meantime, Barone is focused on his upcoming project, Haunted Chocolatier. While details remain scarce, he emphasized that the game must surpass the success of its predecessor. "It’s got to be better," he stated, acknowledging the immense challenge ahead. As for a release date, don’t hold your breath—Barone noted that significant work remains before the game is ready.
Since its launch in 2016, Stardew Valley has garnered critical acclaim, earning a "Great" rating of 8.8 and later being hailed as a "masterpiece" with a perfect score of 10/10. Updates such as the 2024 1.6 patch continue to breathe life into the game, introducing fresh crops, fish, and quests like the Raccoon Family Quests, which unlock new shops and rewards.
