Tencent acquires a controlling 51% stake in Kuro Games, the developer behind the popular action RPG Wuthering Waves. This follows earlier rumors from March and involves Tencent purchasing a 37% share from Hero Entertainment.
Kuro Games assures its employees that internal operations and creative control will remain largely independent, mirroring Tencent's approach with studios like Riot Games and Supercell. This acquisition further solidifies Tencent's extensive portfolio, which already includes investments in major gaming companies such as Ubisoft, Activision Blizzard, and FromSoftware.
Wuthering Waves itself continues to thrive, with the current 1.4 update adding a new Somnoire: Illusive Realms mode, two characters, weapons, and upgrades. Players can also utilize in-game codes for additional rewards.
The upcoming version 2.0 update promises even more, introducing the explorable nation of Rinascita, new characters Carlotta and Roccia, and a PlayStation 5 release, bringing the game to all major platforms. Tencent's investment ensures long-term stability for Kuro Games and its future projects.
