In-game purchases are now unavailable, but Gleamium and character tokens can still be used until the May 30th deadline. The game will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store.

This closure follows reports of MultiVersus' underperformance for Warner Bros. Discovery, resulting in a significant $100 million writedown, contributing to a larger $300 million loss in the games sector. This financial setback, along with the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the departure of Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad, contributed to a challenging year for the company. As CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels stated during a November financial call, "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business..."

Despite the shutdown, Season 5 will include new content, featuring Lola Bunny (unlockable via daily calendar reward) and Aquaman (available through the battle pass) as playable characters.
