The Digital Revolution of Devarattam: A Mobile App Celebration
This app, developed as part of my "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" project, is dedicated to the legendary figures of Devarattam: Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (retired teacher), Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti, recipients of the Kalaimamani, Kalaimamani, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards, respectively. My gratitude also extends to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the cherished legends of Devarattam.
The primary goal of this app is to promote Devarattam and its distinguished awardees. It provides detailed information about the dance form and its notable practitioners.
Devarattam, a traditional folk dance of Tamil Nadu, has been performed for generations by the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community. While the dance boasts 32 to 72 steps, the foundational sequence consists of 32 steps, with variations forming the remainder.
Devarattam dancers, adorned with salangai anklets and holding kerchiefs, perform their art accompanied by the distinctive sounds of the Deva Thunthumi musical instrument.
