In *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*, customizing your Hideout includes the delightful option of adding pets and other animals for companionship. Here’s a detailed guide on how to bring these furry friends into your space.
How to Unlock Animals in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
To unlock a variety of animals for your Hideout, you can interact with them throughout the game. Each time Naoe or Yasuke pets a cat or dog of a breed they haven't encountered before, that specific animal becomes available for your Hideout. This includes a diverse range of dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens, such as the stray you avenge in the pre-order DLC quest “Thrown to the Dogs.”
Yasuke can also unlock smaller wildlife by capturing their likeness through painting. This includes rabbits, fox kits, tanukis, and monkeys that you might come across in the wild. Once documented, these animals can be added to your Hideout as well.
For those interested in farm life, various vendors across Japan offer the chance to purchase farm animals like oxen and goats for a certain amount of mon, further diversifying your Hideout’s inhabitants.
How to Add Animals to the Hideout in Assassin’s Creed Shadows
Choose the animal you wish to add, and you'll be taken to an overhead view of your Hideout. Select an open grid on the map to place your chosen animal. While you can position them anywhere, remember that once back in game mode, these animals will roam freely, so they won’t always be in the same spot when you want to interact with them.
You can add multiple instances of the same animal to the Hideout, with the exception of the unique pup from the “Thrown to the Dogs” quest. However, there’s a limit to the total number of animals you can have, so plan your menagerie accordingly. At any time, you can remove or replace animals by using the build mode to erase and add new ones.
That’s everything you need to know about adding animals to the Hideout in *Assassin’s Creed Shadows*.
*Assassin’s Creed Shadows* is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
