Capcom Hints at Resident Evil 9 with Cheerful Video Marking 10M RE4 Players

Capcom has cleverly teased fans with a hint about Resident Evil 9 right under our noses. In celebration of reaching an impressive 10 million players, the Resident Evil 4 development team released a special video on social media on April 25, 2025. The video features Ada Wong engaging in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, followed by a scene where Leon is surrounded by infected enemies wearing party hats, heading towards a church.

The video takes an amusing turn with Dr. Salvador playing a rock song on his chainsaw as if it were a guitar, and Leon energetically fist-pumping in front of a rustic "Thank you for playing" sign. The full video can be viewed below:

Astute viewers noticed that when the "Thank you for playing" sign is turned sideways, the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," which represents the number 9. While it might seem coincidental, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign is absent in earlier scenes of the video, suggesting its addition was intentional. "I know what you did here," one surprised fan said, followed by a wide-eyed emoji.

Capcom has officially confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, likely Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7]. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Speculation suggests, though not confirmed, that the game may be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
