Author: Emma May 25,2025

The critically acclaimed series Shōgun, which swept 18 Emmy Awards and 4 Golden Globes, is gearing up for an eagerly anticipated second season. Cosmo Jarvis, who brilliantly portrayed pilot John Blackthorn, will not only reprise his role but also take on the position of co-executive producer, as confirmed by an official FX press release.

Moreover, lead actor Hiroyuki Sanada, who committed to Season 2 in May of last year following the show's renewal from its original limited series status, has been elevated to executive producer after his involvement in the first season's production. The second season is slated to commence filming in Vancouver, the same location used for the first season, starting in January 2026.

PlayFX has described the upcoming season as "a wholly original new chapter to the first season," which was based on James Clavell’s novel. The network provided insight into the connection between the two seasons:

"In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Sanada) battled for his survival as his adversaries in the Council of Regents plotted against him. The arrival of a mysterious European ship and its English pilot, John Blackthorne (Jarvis), provided Toranaga with crucial strategic insights that shifted the balance of power, enabling him to triumph in a pivotal civil war.

"Season two of Shōgun unfolds a decade later, continuing the historically-inspired narrative of these two men from vastly different backgrounds whose destinies remain deeply intertwined.”

While fans eagerly await the continuation of this stellar series, we can only hope to see new episodes by the end of 2026. Until then, anticipation builds for what promises to be another remarkable season.
