Cyberpunk 2077: Leaked Lunar Expansion Details

Cyberpunk 2077 was initially slated to include a highly ambitious DLC taking players to space, with the Moon as a primary setting, though these plans were eventually canceled. Blogger and dataminer SirMZK has pieced together leaks and assets from the game's files, offering insight into CD Projekt RED's vision for this cosmic add-on.

The game's files contain references to lunar terrain maps, distinct zones such as an Exterior Movie Set and a Drug Lab, and even a rover vehicle model. The Moon location was designed to be expansive, potentially rivaling a quarter of Night City's scale with an open-world structure. This would have introduced a fresh layer of exploration, transporting players far from the familiar neon-drenched urban sprawl.

A standout element of the DLC was to be the Crystal Palace, a high-end orbital station. While it never materialized in the released game, players can spot the Crystal Palace in one ending sequence as V gazes out a spacecraft viewport. Files also point to a prototype for a zero-gravity bar, connected to a scrapped mission labeled "201" that was part of an Arasaka narrative thread.

Many in the community hope these concepts might find new life in CD Projekt RED's next venture, Project Orion, which promises to broaden the Cyberpunk universe. The studio, however, has not officially indicated whether any of these ideas will be revisited.

For now, the lunar expansion remains an intriguing "what-if" for Cyberpunk 2077. The uncovered details sketch a compelling vision of a daring departure—merging the series' hallmark cyberpunk style with the vast, unknown frontier of space.
