Destiny 1's Tower Mysteriously Decorated in Surprise Update
Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's iconic Tower social space has unexpectedly received a festive makeover, complete with lights and decorations. This unannounced update has baffled players and sparked speculation about its origins. The original Destiny, though still playable, largely faded into the background after Destiny 2's 2017 launch.
While Destiny 2 has flourished with ongoing content, many players retain a fondness for the original game. Bungie has even reintroduced classic Destiny content into its sequel, including raids and exotic weapons. However, this unexpected update to the original game's Tower is entirely new.
Beginning January 5th, players reported discovering Ghost-shaped lights adorning the Tower, reminiscent of past seasonal events like The Dawning. However, unlike previous events, the Tower lacks snow, and the banners differ. Crucially, there are no new quests or in-game messages indicating a live event.
A Scrapped Event's Unexpected Return?
The lack of official communication from Bungie has fueled fan theories. Reddit users, including Breshi, pointed to a canceled event, "Days of the Dawning," originally planned for 2016. Breshi's video highlights the striking similarity between unused assets from this scrapped event and the current Tower decorations. The prevailing theory suggests a forgotten future date was assigned to the event's assets, leading to their unintended reappearance.
As of this writing, Bungie remains silent. 2017 marked a significant shift for the franchise, with all live events transitioning to Destiny 2. This accidental update, therefore, provides a fleeting opportunity for players to enjoy a nostalgic surprise before Bungie inevitably removes it.
