Robert Eggers, the visionary behind the recent gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to helm a sequel to the beloved classic, Labyrinth.

According to Variety, Eggers will pen and direct this follow-up to Jim Henson's 1986 dark fantasy masterpiece, starring David Bowie and Jennifer Connelly. He'll collaborate on the script with Sjón, his writing partner on The Northman. While a sequel was previously in development with Scott Derrickson (director of Sinister) attached, a lack of progress since 2023 led TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures to enlist Eggers for this new iteration.

PlayThe original Labyrinth, released in 1986, featured Bowie as the captivating Goblin King Jareth, who abducts Connelly's baby brother. Connelly's character then embarks on a perilous journey through a fantastical realm, aided by a troupe of Henson's iconic puppets, to rescue her sibling.

Eggers' creative endeavors extend beyond Labyrinth. He's also directing a werewolf film titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Currently, details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England and will utilize authentic Old English dialogue. A lycanthropic transformation is, naturally, anticipated.

Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a reimagining of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent's unsettling encounter with a Transylvanian count, leading to a descent into vampiric horror for him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations, recognizing its exceptional cinematography, production design, costume design, and makeup and hairstyling. Read our Nosferatu review for a more in-depth analysis.
