Surprise Patch for Dishonored 2 on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox
Dishonored 2, a critically acclaimed Bethesda title, has unexpectedly received a minor update across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms. The small patch, weighing in at approximately 230MB (requiring a full 40GB re-download on Xbox), appears to focus on bug fixes and language file updates. This comes as a surprise, especially given Arkane Lyon's current focus on the highly anticipated Marvel's Blade.
Released in late 2016, Dishonored 2 introduced Emily Kaldwin as a playable protagonist, expanding on the original game's acclaimed gameplay and level design. While Arkane Lyon developed this sequel and later created Deathloop (2021), its sister studio, Arkane Austin (responsible for the original Dishonored, Prey, and Redfall), was unfortunately affected by the 2024 Xbox studio closures.
The recent update has sparked speculation amongst fans, many hoping for a long-awaited 60 FPS performance boost. Interestingly, other Arkane titles, including the original Dishonored and even the standalone expansion, Death of the Outsider, now support 60 FPS on newer consoles. The absence of this feature in Dishonored 2 remains a point of contention. While a 10th-anniversary update in 2026 is possible, it's uncertain if a simple FPS patch would justify such a prolonged wait.
The future of the Dishonored franchise remains unclear. The closure of Arkane Austin significantly impacts Arkane's development capacity, making a third mainline entry seem distant, if at all likely. For now, Arkane Lyon's attention is fully dedicated to its Marvel's Blade project, with no official release date announced.
