The Elder Scrolls Online has finally implemented a highly requested feature - subclasses. Discover how this system works and explore future game updates.
ESO Direct Updates
Over 3000 Potential Skill Line Combinations
As The Elder Scrolls Online celebrates its 10th anniversary, Zenimax Online Studios revealed major updates during ESO Direct 2025 on April 10. The most anticipated announcement was the introduction of subclassing, fulfilling years of player requests.
The new subclass system eliminates the need for players to create new characters whenever additional skill trees become available. At level 50, players can retain one skill line from their base class while replacing two others with options from six available classes, creating over 3000 potential combinations.
Game Director Rich Lambert confirmed extensive testing of this feature, noting that while power levels may increase, the development team is satisfied with the current balance.
Worm Cult Seasonal Content
Zenimax Online is transitioning to seasonal content delivery, allowing greater flexibility in experimenting with new ideas while maintaining storytelling quality.
The Seasons of the Worm Cult chapter continues the Molag Bal storyline after a decade-long wait. Players will explore the new Isle of Solstice zone to investigate the Worm Cult's resurgence.
Producer Susan Kath explained seasonal durations will typically last 3-6 months, with potential remixes of previous storylines - including hinted Dark Brotherhood content.
