Chris Evans, the star of Captain America, has definitively stated that he will not be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for Avengers: Doomsday or any other future films, despite recent reports suggesting otherwise. Evans directly refuted a Deadline article claiming his return alongside Robert Downey Jr., calling the report "not true."

This denial follows comments from Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America, who initially stated his manager informed him of Evans' return. However, Mackie later clarified that Evans himself confirmed his retirement from the MCU during a recent conversation. Mackie recounted Evans' words: "I’m happily retired."

Evans echoed this sentiment when directly questioned, stating that rumors of his return have circulated since Avengers: Endgame and that he's chosen to ignore them. He reiterated, "Happily retired."

While Evans has briefly returned to the MCU's universe in a comedic cameo as Johnny Storm in Deadpool & Wolverine, his participation was significantly different from his main role as Captain America.

The future of the MCU remains somewhat uncertain following the removal of Jonathan Majors, who played Kang the Conqueror, from the franchise after his assault and harassment conviction. Majors' departure, which left a hole in Marvel's plans for the MCU's future, initially fueled speculation about the return of other original Avengers.

With Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., now set as the new main antagonist, further speculation arose regarding the return of other original Avengers. However, currently, no official confirmation exists.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who portrays Doctor Strange, confirmed his absence from Avengers: Doomsday but indicated a "central role" in its sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars. The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday, which is expected to continue the multiverse storyline, potentially featuring Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter.
