The classic strategy game, *ROME: Total War*, has just received a substantial free update on Android, courtesy of Feral Interactive. Dubbed the Imperium Update, this release introduces a host of gameplay tweaks, control enhancements, and quality-of-life improvements. If you're among the players who've been enjoying this iconic title since its Android debut in 2018, you're in for a treat with these new features. Moreover, fans of the standalone expansions, Barbarian Invasion and Alexander, can look forward to similar updates rolling out next week.
What Does the Imperium Update Bring to ROME: Total War?
The Imperium Update brings to *ROME: Total War* some of the standout features from Feral’s more recent mobile releases, such as *Total War: MEDIEVAL II* and *EMPIRE*. Players can now enjoy three new control options: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These additions enhance your ability to command units with greater precision during battles. Instead of manually dragging paths, you can now simply tap and hold to move your armies, agents, or fleets.
With the new Positioning Mode, you can fine-tune unit placements effortlessly by tapping and holding. The Group Grid feature simplifies managing unit groups with its collapsible selection menu. Additionally, Melee Mode allows your ranged units to seamlessly switch to close combat when the situation demands it.
A significant change introduced is the Command Slowdown feature, which automatically slows the game down when you're issuing complex orders, making it easier to strategize in the heat of battle. For the first time, *ROME: Total War* on Android (and iPad) now supports keyboard and mouse, enhancing the gaming experience significantly.
The minimap has been revamped to resemble that of *MEDIEVAL II*, with smoother zooming and navigation. A handy reset button lets you quickly return to the default view, making it easier to keep track of the battlefield.
The Imperium Update is already available for download on the Google Play Store for *ROME: Total War* Android users. Keep an eye out for the updates for *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander* coming next week. Don't miss out on these enhancements that will elevate your gameplay to new heights.
