Lost Fantasy reunites Pires with artist Luca Casalanguida. The first issue boasts cover art by Casalanguida, Alex Diotto, Darick Robertson, and Jae Lee. The series also features a serialized backup story, Indigo Children: Exodus, a continuation of Pires' sci-fi series.

Image Comics provides this synopsis:

In Lost Fantasy, a hidden magical world exists beneath our own. First contact occurred over a century ago following a natural disaster, creating a rift that unleashed monsters. Since then, elite monster hunters, known as The Great Hunters, have collaborated with global leaders to protect our world. However, a recent massacre in Montana signals a significant shift, threatening both worlds. Rookie monster hunter, Henry Blackheart, must confront this new threat.

Pires shares his inspiration:

I'm thrilled to be back at Image Comics with Lost Fantasy, a series blending my love for Western comics like East of West and Something is Killing the Children with the immersive world-building and action of the JRPGs I grew up with. The protagonist's spiky hair and giant sword are a direct tribute to Tetsuya Nomura's iconic Cloud design from Final Fantasy. The 'Lost' in the title subtly nods to Hironobu Sakaguchi's Lost Odyssey, a criminally underrated masterpiece. The comic's heart is filled with JRPG love.
