At the start of Avowed, you face a crucial decision: free the suspicious prisoner Ilora from her cell in Fort Northreach, or leave her fate sealed. Your ultimate goal is to use her boat to reach Paradis, but the choice you make at Fort Northreach significantly impacts your journey. Should you free Ilora, or leave her behind?
While Avowed encourages roleplaying your character as you see fit, freeing Ilora is strongly recommended. This path significantly eases your progress through Fort Northreach and unlocks a later side quest.
Should You Free Ilora?
Freeing Ilora provides considerable advantages. She becomes a valuable ally, aiding you in combat against the island's enemies, including the formidable Steadman Ralke. Early in the game, your resources are limited, making Ilora's assistance invaluable. Furthermore, freeing her opens up the "Escape Plan" side quest, making that portion of the game considerably easier (without spoiling specifics).
What Happens If You Free Ilora?
By freeing Ilora, you gain a powerful ally who significantly simplifies the challenges of Fort Northreach. Her help is particularly crucial in the early game, where you lack strong weapons and armor.
How to Free Ilora
Ilora reveals the key to her cell is located in the Warden's Room. Reach the end of the hallway, climb the crates, jump to the adjacent platform, and enter the passageway above. Break through the boards on your right to access the Warden's Room. The key is near the door. Regardless of your choice regarding Ilora, use this key to open the adjacent cell and obtain the Deerskin Gloves.
What Happens If You Don't Free Ilora?
If you choose not to free Ilora, expect a significantly more difficult experience in Fort Northreach. The "Escape Plan" side quest will also prove far more challenging. Ironically, Ilora won't remain imprisoned; you'll later encounter her as an enemy, further complicating your escape. While you'll gain loot from her corpse, this comes at the cost of a more difficult and less rewarding experience.
Ultimately, freeing Ilora offers a smoother, more rewarding gameplay experience in Avowed.
