Google Gets In on the Stranger Things Season 5 Fun and Adds an Epic Easter Egg to the Search Engine

Stranger Things is dominating pop culture as its series finale nears — and Google has joined the celebration with a special Easter egg on its search engine.

Visit the Google homepage and type “Stranger Things” into the search bar to see a Dungeons & Dragons polyhedral die appear at the bottom of the results page. Clicking it rolls a one, triggering red lightning bolts that flash across your screen. The results then flip vertically, immersing you in the Upside Down.

This playful feature underscores Stranger Things’ enduring impact on the cultural zeitgeist since its debut in 2016.

Regarding the Upside Down itself, the latest trailer for the final season hints that the main characters may venture inside it before the series concludes. Honestly, seeing them enter that realm would be incredibly cool — and chaotic, fitting perfectly with what we expect from this concluding chapter of the show.

“I think what’s unique about this season is that it begins in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of Season 4,” co-creator and showrunner Ross Duffer recently shared about Season 5. “We typically establish their normal lives and routines before introducing the supernatural elements. However, this time around, the story sprints from the very beginning.”

His brother, fellow co-creator and showrunner Matt Duffer, noted that the group’s circumstances have shifted significantly. “They aren’t living a typical life anymore; nothing in Hawkins is ordinary,” he explained. “Their mobility is limited, and Big Brother-style cameras are everywhere. So not only are they constantly on the move — their everyday routines are anything but normal.”

The final season of Stranger Things will be released in three installments. The first four episodes premiered for Thanksgiving on November 26, followed by the next three episodes arriving on Netflix on Christmas Day. The series finale will stream exclusively on the platform on New Year’s Eve, coinciding with its nationwide theatrical release.
