Hollow Knight: Silksong playable in Sydney museum

IGN has revealed that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be playable at an Australian museum in September 2025.

Team Cherry's highly anticipated Metroidvania sequel, in development for years, consistently ranks atop Steam's wishlist charts. Based in Adelaide, South Australia, the studio has only confirmed a vague 2025 release window - but now we know the game will be publicly demoable at Melbourne's ACMI (Australia's National Museum of Screen Culture) starting September 18.

The playable demo will be part of ACMI's "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also feature deep dives into Silksong's development process and artistic design.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell stated: "Hollow Knight: Silksong has been one of the most anticipated indie titles since its 2019 announcement. We're honored to feature this South Australian-developed game as a centerpiece of our Game Worlds exhibition."

"Our exhibition will showcase hundreds of animated sprites for Hornet's movements, insights into boss fight mechanics, and of course the playable demo. We're grateful to Team Cherry for this collaboration and excited to share their work with visitors."

ACMI also shared an exclusive look at one of Silksong's sprite sheets that will be displayed at the exhibition.

Naturally, fans are speculating about what this means for Silksong's actual launch date. The museum demo suggests a potential August release preceding the September exhibition.

The Silksong hype has been building - the game briefly appeared in Nintendo's recent Switch 2 presentation, followed by Team Cherry confirming the 2025 window. The fleeting showcase provided some new gameplay footage and marked the most substantial update in years.

Originally announced for Switch and PC, with Xbox/Game Pass and PlayStation versions coming later, Silksong has been the subject of numerous cryptic teases. Earlier this year, Team Cherry sparked speculation with a mysterious chocolate cake recipe post that fans hoped might signal an April reveal.
