A recent leak suggests Honkai: Star Rail Version 3.1 will include a free 4-star character selector, potentially as part of a limited-time event. This selector would allow players to choose one of four characters: Qingque, Pela, Serval, or Asta.

This news comes as Honkai: Star Rail's 3.0 update approaches, introducing new gameplay features and characters. While the game boasts a roster of 23 4-star characters, many haven't maintained top-tier meta status. Though some remain useful in specific team compositions, reaching their full potential often requires significant Eidolon investment. Past updates (Versions 2.1 and 2.7) offered free character selectors, facilitating Eidolon acquisition. The Version 3.1 leak indicates a similar event is planned.

The leak, originating from prominent leaker HomDGCat, specifies the selectable characters: Qingque (Quantum, Erudition), Pela (Ice, Nihility), Serval (Lightning, Erudition), and Asta (Fire, Harmony). Interestingly, all are from the 1.0 cycle, with Asta even being an early-game acquisition. This aligns with recent speculation that future releases will prioritize 5-star characters, potentially explaining the lack of new 4-star additions.

The disparity between 5-star and 4-star character numbers is significant – nearly 40 5-star characters compared to 23 4-star characters. With eight more 5-star characters anticipated in the Amphoreus update and a rumored Fate/Stay Night crossover adding two more, the imbalance is likely to grow. The 2.0 cycle only introduced four new 4-star characters (including March 7th's alternate form), raising concerns about future 4-star character selector content.
