In Hyper Light Breaker, selecting the right weapon is crucial for crafting the perfect build. Starting with basic loadouts, players can upgrade their arsenal as they progress, tailoring their equipment to their preferred playstyle. The game blends elements of roguelikes and extraction games, introducing unique mechanics for obtaining new weapons.
Where to Get New Weapons in Hyper Light Breaker
Exploring the Overgrowths is the primary way to discover new gear. During your runs, you'll naturally stumble upon various items, but if you're specifically hunting for weapons, keep an eye out for sword and pistol icons on the map, which indicate the locations of Blades and Rails, respectively.
Blades, being melee weapons, offer diverse movesets and special abilities, while Rails, the ranged options, come with unique functions that distinguish them from one another. Both weapon types vary in rarity, with gold being the most coveted. As with many loot-based games, higher rarity translates to superior stats.
When you find a weapon in an Overgrowth, you have the option to send it directly to your personal stash by selecting the Cache button rather than Equipping it immediately. This allows you to equip these weapons for future runs by adjusting your loadout before setting out.
How to Get New Starting Weapons
In addition to finding new Breakers during your adventures, you can acquire new starting gear by visiting the merchants at the Cursed Outpost. Initially, you'll only have access to the Blades merchant. To unlock the Rails merchant, you must gather sufficient materials to repair their shop.
Keep in mind that merchants have a limited stock, but their inventory refreshes over time. If you don't see something you like at first, it's worth checking back later to see what new items they have available.
How to Upgrade Weapons
To enhance your weapons, head to the merchants in the Outpost where you can upgrade your gear. However, you must first unlock the Upgrade feature by increasing your affinity with the merchants. This requires collecting Golden Rations, a scarce resource you can find by exploring the world or resetting cycles. Use these rations judiciously, as they are hard to come by.
Be aware that if you die, the equipped gear will lose durability, shown by a pip under their icons. Continuous deaths will eventually lead to the gear breaking, so manage your resources and gear carefully to maintain your edge in the game.
