"John Wick Anime Prequel: Keanu Reeves Voices Character in Tale of Impossible Task"

The John Wick anime prequel film has officially found its setting.

Revealed during CinemaCon, the animated movie will feature Keanu Reeves reprising his role as John Wick—both in voice and live-action, following his recent confirmation for John Wick 5.

This prequel delves into one of the most legendary chapters in Wick’s past: the ‘Impossible Task.’ Frequently referenced throughout the film series, this mission plays a key role in building the myth and fear surrounding John Wick’s reputation.

Here's the official synopsis:

The animated film will explore the untold story of John Wick prior to the events of the first movie. It follows him as he undertakes the infamous Impossible Task—the killing of all his rivals in a single night—as the ultimate sacrifice to break free from his ties to the High Table and win the freedom to be with Helen, the love of his life.

Staying true to the tone of the franchise, the film will deliver visually striking action sequences designed for mature audiences, just like the live-action films.

The project is being brought to life by the same producing team behind the John Wick movies: Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee, alongside 87Eleven Entertainment’s Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves. Executive producers include Alex Young and Jason Spitz from 87Eleven Entertainment.

The John Wick franchise is currently at its peak, with over a billion dollars in global box office success. Alongside the four released films and the newly greenlit John Wick 5, the universe expands further with two upcoming spinoffs—Ballerina, set for release on June 6, and a Donnie Yen-led Caine-focused film scheduled to begin production this summer.

Additionally, Lionsgate Television produced The Continental: From the World of John Wick for Peacock and Amazon Prime, while Lionsgate is also developing John Wick: Under the High Table, a new series being executive produced by Chad Stahelski and Keanu Reeves.

Beyond film and television, Lionsgate has launched an immersive John Wick experience in Las Vegas and is currently working on a AAA video game centered around the iconic assassin.
