Bethesda's acclaimed voice actor, Wes Johnson, is recovering after a near-fatal incident. Found "barely alive" in his Atlanta hotel room last week, Johnson has shared a moving message of gratitude from his recovery.
A GoFundMe campaign, launched by friends and family, has already raised over $174,000 to cover medical expenses. Johnson's video update reveals he was in a coma following the incident.
"I discovered an overwhelming amount of love and support I never knew existed," Johnson stated, expressing his heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed.
Johnson, also known as a Washington Capitals announcer, was in Atlanta for a National Alzheimer's Foundation benefit. His absence from the event triggered concern, leading his wife to contact the hotel. Security personnel and EMTs found him with a barely detectable pulse.
"The rumors of my demise were slightly exaggerated," Johnson joked, adding, "It was incredibly close, but I'm still here." He credits his wife's quick thinking and the efforts of his son, friends Bill Glasser and Shari Elliker, and his wife Kim, for saving his life. The GoFundMe campaign, established by these individuals, brought the extent of his support to light.
Johnson extended his gratitude to the National Alzheimer's Association for supporting his family, Ted Leonsis (Washington Capitals' parent company chairman) for a substantial $25,000 donation, and Bethesda Studios for their public show of support. He expressed deep affection for Bethesda, stating, "You say I'm your friend. I am, and always will be. Love you guys." He concluded with a message for his fans: "I love you all. I'm not going anywhere. It will take time, but I'm coming back. I look forward to seeing and hearing you all again. Cheers."
Johnson's extensive voice acting credits span film, television, and video games, with a prominent focus on Bethesda titles. His recent roles include Ron Hope in Starfield, and he's also known for his work in Skyrim, Oblivion, Morrowind, and the Fallout series.
