MageTrain: Fast-Paced Pixel Roguelike Now on Android

Tidepool Games has just launched an exhilarating new game on Android called MageTrain, a fast-paced pixel art 'snakelike' roguelike that will remind fans of Nimble Quest due to its heavy inspiration from the classic.

What's MageTrain Like?

MageTrain masterfully blends elements of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelikes into a unique gaming experience. You'll find yourself steering a line of heroes, much like a snake, as they autonomously attack while you navigate through an arena. Your strategic role involves positioning each hero within the train, as their abilities vary based on their placement. Whether leading the charge or supporting from the back, each hero's skillset adapts dynamically.

At launch, MageTrain introduces nine heroes, one of whom uniquely throws birds. As you progress through eight diverse dungeons, you'll encounter 28 enemy types and unlock 30 skills to enhance your team. Along the way, you'll collect gold and power-ups to boost your chances of survival.

The roguelike structure ensures that every run is unique, with branching paths and upgrade choices that keep you on your toes. Similar to games like Slay the Spire or FTL, there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress; a single mistake means starting over. Yet, this challenge adds to the thrill of mastering the game.

It Isn't Slow-Paced

What makes MageTrain captivating is the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even when you don't succeed. You'll learn when to adopt a defensive strategy, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to focus on surviving just a bit longer.
