Hasbro has unveiled plans to expand Magic: The Gathering's reach to screens worldwide.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals Hasbro is collaborating with Legendary Entertainment to develop an interconnected Magic: The Gathering universe encompassing both films and television series, prioritizing the movie adaptation first.

"We take great responsibility in nurturing exceptional, beloved franchises, and Magic: The Gathering perfectly aligns with our philosophy," stated Legendary's chairman of worldwide production. The studio is known for producing major films including Dune, the MonsterVerse entries like Godzilla vs. Kong, and Detective Pikachu.

While details remain somewhat unclear, the report suggests Legendary's live-action adaptations may operate separately from the previously announced Magic: The Gathering animated series in development at Netflix. However, plans could have evolved to incorporate the animation into this broader franchise universe.

Originally created by Wizards of the Coast in 1993, Magic: The Gathering has grown into one of the world's most popular trading card games. Hasbro acquired Wizards of the Coast in 1999.

Hasbro has significant experience translating its properties to film, with previous adaptations including G.I. Joe, Transformers, and Dungeons & Dragons. The company currently has multiple projects in development, including new G.I. Joe films, a Power Rangers reboot, and a Beyblade feature film.
