Hashino, when discussing the studio's future, expressed a strong interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game, potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.
Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel. However, Hashino emphasized a commitment to seeing the current project through to its completion. He revealed the game was initially conceived as a third major JRPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming for it to become a flagship title for the company.
While a direct sequel is unlikely, the team is already actively developing their next project. Despite earlier statements ruling out a sequel, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved significant success, boasting the highest concurrent player count for an Atlus game launch to date.
The game's peak concurrent player count reached 85,961, surpassing Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
