Amazon is refunding pre-orders for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, notifying customers via email due to "lack of availability." This development, reported on January 11, 2025, across various online forums, has sparked some concern among fans.

Refunds are promised within one to two business days. While disappointing for those who pre-ordered, particularly long-time fans who anticipated the game since its 2017 announcement, the cancellation doesn't signal the game's cancellation. It simply reflects a temporary inability to fulfill pre-orders through Amazon.

A Look Back at Metroid Prime 4's Development

Initially announced at E3 2017 without Retro Studios at the helm, development was later restarted under Retro Studios in 2019 due to the initial progress not meeting Nintendo's standards.

A gameplay trailer showcasing Sylux as the antagonist and confirming the title Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was released in June 2024, setting a 2025 release window. Nintendo reaffirmed this release date on January 3, 2025.

The Amazon pre-order cancellation notwithstanding, the game remains on track for a 2025 release. The platform (original Switch or the upcoming Switch 2) remains to be seen.
