Elden Ring's Nightreign Duos Mod Already Live

Modders continue to demonstrate remarkable tenacity. Elden Ring: Nightreign is now available, and within a day of its release, a prominent FromSoftware modder has already showcased a functional Duos mode mod.

Luke Yui, known for popular co-op modifications in games like Elden Ring and Armored Core VI, shared a brief demonstration video on their YouTube channel. It features a two-player mod for Nightreign, finally enabling a pair of Nightfarers to team up without being forced into a solo or three-player format.

It's crucial to clarify that this is currently a proof-of-concept demonstration from Yui, not a publicly released mod. They noted the mod operates without connecting to the official matchmaking servers. This allows for the use of other mods during play but also means bypassing the standard game systems. Whether this evolves into a practical solution or remains a technical curiosity remains to be seen.

While Elden Ring: Nightreign supports solo or three-player co-op, a dedicated two-player option is absent. Players must either go solo, dismiss a friend, or matchmake for a third. This might seem minor, but for duos who prefer to play exclusively together, it's a notable frustration.

This omission has become a significant point of feedback in Nightreign's early reception. The lack of a duos mode is frequently mentioned in critical early reviews, with many players finding the restriction cumbersome. As noted by a user on the Elden Ring subreddit, the Nightreign-specific community board is flooded with players searching for a third, humorously resembling "a threesome sub."

In a conversation with IGN, Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki acknowledged the team had "somewhat overlooked and neglected the duos aspect." He confirmed the team is actively evaluating the possibility of adding duos support post-launch. Given the overwhelming player demand, it's a feature that's undoubtedly hard to ignore.
