MultiVersus Season 5 Will Be Its Last Season

MultiVersus' official Twitter (X) account announced on January 31, 2025, that the game will cease operations on May 30, 2025, following its fifth and final season. In a detailed blog post on MultiVersus' official website, Player First Games and Warner Bros. confirmed that "our next Season will serve as the final seasonal content update for the game."

MultiVersus Season 5, kicking off on February 4, 2025, and running through to May 30, 2025, will introduce two new playable characters: DC's Aquaman and Looney Tunes' Lola Bunny. The blog post emphasizes that "All new Season 5 content, including Aquaman and Lola Bunny, will be earnable through gameplay." Once Season 5 concludes, MultiVersus will no longer be available for download on the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store.

No official reasons have been disclosed by MultiVersus for the shutdown.

Post-Season 5, MultiVersus will transition to an offline mode, allowing players to continue enjoying the game "via the local gameplay mode, either solo against A.I. opponents or with up to three friends." To access this feature, players must download the latest version of MultiVersus during Season 5, from February 4 at 9 AM PST until May 30 at 9 AM PDT.

Upon logging in, the game will automatically generate a local save file linked to your PlayStation Network, Microsoft Store, Steam, or Epic Games Store account, ensuring you can play MultiVersus offline with all your earned and purchased content.

As of January 31, 2025, MultiVersus has halted real money transactions, meaning Gleamium, the game's premium currency, can no longer be bought in the online store. However, players with existing Gleamium can use it to access in-game content until the end of Season 5.

MultiVersus launched its public beta in July 2022, offering a free-to-play fighting game experience reminiscent of Super Smash Bros., but with a unique 2v2 team-based format. From July 2022 to June 2023, the open public beta rolled out numerous updates and two seasons of content. The game saw a relaunch in May 2024, introducing new characters, rollback netcode, a PvE mode, new currencies, and more.

Despite these enhancements, fans expressed dissatisfaction with ongoing technical issues, frequent disconnections, and the game's microtransactions. Reports indicate a 70% drop in player count for PS4 and PS5 as of July 2024.

MultiVersus is set to officially shut down on May 30 at 9 AM PDT, featuring 35 playable characters from various franchises. Player First Games and Warner Bros. expressed gratitude, stating, "We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey."

You can download MultiVersus on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC until May 30, 2025.
