Nintendo's Surprise: An Interactive Alarm Clock and a Mysterious Switch Online Playtest
Who saw this coming? Nintendo has launched a new interactive alarm clock, the Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo, alongside a secretive Switch Online playtest. Let's dive into the details.
The Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo – Wake Up in a Game World!
Priced at $99, the Alarmo uses game sounds to rouse you from slumber. Imagine waking to the sounds of Mario, Zelda, or Splatoon! Nintendo promises free updates with additional game soundtracks.
The Alarmo's interactivity lies in its motion-sensing technology. It won't shut off until you're out of bed – a "brief victory fanfare," as Nintendo puts it. Waving your hand merely quiets the alarm; prolonged bed-dwelling intensifies the wake-up call.
Utilizing a radio wave sensor, the Alarmo measures your distance and movement speed without the need for video recording, ensuring privacy. This allows for detection even in dark rooms or with obstacles. Developer Tetsuya Akama highlights the sensor's sensitivity to subtle movements.
Early Access and Availability:
Nintendo Switch Online members in the US and Canada can purchase the Alarmo exclusively through the My Nintendo Store for a limited time. Additionally, the Nintendo New York store offers in-person purchases while supplies last.
