Nintendo Responds to Switch 2 Leaks from CES 2025
Following the emergence of Switch 2 images from CES 2025, Nintendo issued a rare public statement. A company representative confirmed that Nintendo did not officially participate in CES 2025, therefore, any Switch 2 imagery originating from the event should not be considered official. This statement, while seemingly obvious, marks an unusual instance of Nintendo addressing product leaks.
Rumors and leaks surrounding the Switch 2 have been prevalent since late 2024, possibly due to the console's reported entry into mass production around that time. Accessory manufacturer Genki displayed a purported Switch 2 replica at CES 2025, sparking widespread online discussion.
Nintendo's response, given to the Sankei Shimbun, directly labeled the images and videos of Genki's replica as "not official." The company emphasized its absence from CES 2025, further solidifying the unofficial nature of the leaked materials.
Genki's Replica: Accurate or Not?
While Nintendo didn't comment on the accuracy of Genki's replica, the device's design aligns with existing leaks and rumors. The most notable differences from the original Switch include a slightly larger size and an additional button below the right Joy-Con's home button, labeled "C," with an unknown function. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai also mentioned other potential features, such as magnetically attaching Joy-Cons and their potential use as mouse controllers, corroborating previous reports.
Nintendo's previous statements indicated a Switch 2 reveal within fiscal year 2024 (ending March 31, 2025). With approximately 80 days remaining, anticipation remains high. A retail launch is not expected before the second quarter of 2025, with a rumored price point around $399.
