"Nintendo Switch 2 Filings Hint at NFC and Amiibo Compatibility"

Recent filings with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) have unveiled exciting details about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, including support for Near Field Communication (NFC). This feature, situated in the right Joy-Con, suggests that the beloved Amiibo figures will continue to enhance gameplay on the next-gen console. Gamers are eager to find out if the Switch 2 will be compatible with the existing Amiibo collection, allowing them to unlock in-game content seamlessly.

The FCC documents also shed light on the charging capabilities of the Switch 2. Users will have the convenience of charging the device through either the bottom USB-C port or a newly introduced top port. This flexibility aligns with what fans anticipated after the console's official reveal. Moreover, the Switch 2 will upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) networks, supporting up to 80MHz of bandwidth, a step up from the Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) on the original Switch. However, there is no mention of support for Wi-Fi 7 or Wi-Fi 6E, as noted by The Verge.

In terms of power, the Switch 2 maintains a maximum rating of 15V, but an intriguing detail from the filings is the mention of an AC adapter that can go up to 20V. This leaves the actual charging speed somewhat mysterious, adding to the anticipation around the console's performance.

A recent Nintendo patent has hinted at innovative Joy-Con designs for the Switch 2, which could allow the controllers to be attached upside down. Unlike the original Switch, where Joy-Cons lock into place with rails, the new system might use magnets, offering flexibility in controller orientation. This could revolutionize gameplay by letting players customize where they want buttons and ports. Such a feature, if included in the final product, might inspire new and creative game mechanics.

If the patent's design for the Switch 2 becomes a reality, Nintendo is expected to delve into this feature during the special Nintendo Direct event scheduled for 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK time on April 2.

While Nintendo has yet to confirm a release window for the Switch 2, speculation points towards a launch between June and September. This anticipation is fueled by upcoming hands-on events scheduled until June and statements from Greedfall 2 publisher Nacon suggesting the console will hit the market before September.

The initial reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 in January included confirmation of backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. However, many details such as the lineup of other games and the purpose of the mysterious new Joy-Con button remain undisclosed. The theory of the Joy-Con functioning as a mouse has gained some traction, adding to the buzz surrounding this eagerly awaited console.
