Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, dispelling previous rumors and speculation. This confirmation came through the newly announced and released Nintendo Today! app, where keen-eyed fans spotted the letter "C" on the button in the app's promotional images on both the App Store and Google Play.

The C button was initially revealed alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but at the time, the images of the new Joy-Con did not display any letter on the button. Prior reports had suggested it might be called the "C" button, which has now been verified.

Speculation abounds regarding the functionality of the C button. Some enthusiasts believe it could be related to "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or facilitating screen sharing. Others speculate that it might switch the Joy-Con's functionality, perhaps into a mouse mode. There's also talk that it could be linked to new group or voice chat features.

PlayNintendo has announced a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which is expected to shed more light on this new feature. Until then, here's what we know for certain:
  • Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The new console is larger than its predecessor, featuring larger Joy-Con that can potentially function as a mouse.
  • It comes equipped with two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as exclusive Switch 2 titles. However, certain Nintendo Switch games may not be fully supported or compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development specifically for the Nintendo Switch 2.
