Excitement is building among fans as Nintendo hints at the possibility of a new 3D Mario game on the horizon. While nothing has been confirmed, the anticipation is palpable following comments from Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser in a recent CNN interview. Although he didn't explicitly promise a sequel to Super Mario Odyssey, Bowser's cryptic message suggests that fans might not have to wait much longer for more news.

"Stay tuned," Bowser teased. "You know, we have a long, long catalog, and a long list of (intellectual property) that I’m sure will make its way to the platform."

While Bowser's words are not a direct confirmation of a new 3D Mario game announcement, they offer a glimmer of hope for those disappointed by the absence of a new Mario title in the Nintendo Switch 2 launch lineup. Earlier this month, Nintendo unveiled its next-gen hybrid console, showcasing titles like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World. However, a traditional 3D Mario platformer was noticeably missing from the reveal.

It's been nearly eight years since the last major Mario game, Super Mario Odyssey, which launched in October 2017, shortly after the original Switch hit the market. While games like Donkey Kong Bananza might help bridge the gap, many fans are eagerly awaiting a Super Mario Odyssey 2 announcement. Given Mario's pivotal role in Nintendo's extensive catalog, as mentioned by Bowser, it would be surprising if a new 3D Mario adventure didn't surface soon.
