Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has cancelled the physical release of the game for Nintendo Switch and PS4 in Europe. The cancellation, announced via Twitter (X), cites technical difficulties with multilingual European localization as the reason.
A String of Delays Leads to Cancellation
The physical release, initially slated for March 2023, faced multiple delays, pushing it to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025 before ultimately being cancelled. Pre-orders on sites like Amazon were repeatedly postponed, ultimately resulting in this disappointing news for fans. While Meridiem Games offered little further explanation beyond the initial announcement, the cumulative effect of these delays ultimately led to the cancellation.
This news is especially disheartening for European fans, as it prevents the official release of the game in Spanish and other European languages. While a physical copy is still obtainable through importing a US version, the cancellation means European players miss out on an officially localized physical release.
Omori, an RPG following Sunny's journey through reality and his dream world as Omori, originally launched on PC in December 2020 and expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. It's worth noting that the Xbox version was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue with merchandise from the game's developer, OMOCAT.
