Pokemon GO Event Adding Long-Requested Feature for a Limited Time

Summary

  • During Fashion Week: Taken Over, Pokemon GO players can utilize remote raid passes for Shadow Raids.
  • Participants have an increased opportunity to catch Pokemon with superior IV stats in these raids.
  • Remote raid pass functionality is restricted to a limited window within the Shadow Raid mode.

Niantic has revealed that Pokemon GO trainers will be able to use remote raid passes for Shadow Raids for the first time during the upcoming Fashion Week: Taken Over event. Since their introduction in 2023, Shadow Raids have become a favored method among players for capturing powerful Pokémon.

As 2025 begins, Niantic has already outlined several updates for this popular augmented reality title. In January alone, Ralts returned for the second Community Day of the month. With a new event on the horizon, developers have delighted fans by reintroducing a highly anticipated feature to the mobile game.

During the Fashion Week: Taken Over event, trainers can deploy remote raid passes in Shadow Raids for the first time ever. The event spans from Wednesday, January 15 at 12:00 a.m. through Sunday, January 19, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. local time. During this period, players can join one-star, three-star, and five-star Shadow Raids either in person or remotely. All participants will enjoy an enhanced chance of catching Pokémon with higher IVs.

Pokemon GO Temporarily Introducing Remote Raid Passes for Shadow Raids

Although limited to the Fashion Week: Taken Over event, players can battle remotely during the Shadow Ho-Oh Raid Day on January 19 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. On this day, trainers will have an increased encounter rate for a shiny shadow Ho-Oh and can teach it the charged move Sacred Fire. Additionally, players may use Charged TMs on Shadow Pokémon to remove Frustration.

Gamers are eagerly anticipating the ability to use remote raid passes in Shadow Raids, as it remains one of the most requested features since its initial addition in 2023. Notably, once the Fashion Week: Taken Over event concludes, remote raid passes will no longer be usable for Shadow Raids.

It remains unclear whether Niantic will make this a permanent feature or if it is merely a temporary experiment. The developers have faced feedback regarding Dynamax and Gigantamax battles due to the requirement of in-person gatherings for tougher encounters; thus, making this feature permanent would likely please many fans.
