Project Mugen Is Now Called Ananta, Devs Drop New Trailer

Remember Project Mugen, the anticipated urban open-world RPG from Naked Rain and NetEase? It's undergone a name change, now officially titled Ananta.

Initially unveiled at Gamescom 2023, Ananta has finally released a new trailer after a long silence, promising further details on December 5th. Until then, enjoy the official trailer:

Reasons Behind the Name Change?

The developers haven't yet commented. Interestingly, "Ananta" means infinite in Sanskrit, mirroring the meaning of "Mugen" (infinite). The Chinese title also aligns with this concept.

The gaming community is divided on the name change, but universally relieved the project hasn't been cancelled. Comparisons are already being drawn between Ananta and Hotta Studio's upcoming RPG, Neverness to Everness. While Ananta's trailer is visually striking, its lack of gameplay footage gives Neverness to Everness a perceived advantage for some players. Personally, I find Ananta's visuals more compelling.

A Curious Turn of Events

Surprisingly, the development team has deleted all their original social media accounts, including a YouTube channel boasting over 100,000 subscribers and millions of views. Only their Discord server remains, simply renamed. This fresh start has left many gamers puzzled, as a simple renaming of existing accounts would have seemed a more logical approach.

In Ananta, you play as an Infinite Trigger, a paranormal investigator combating supernatural chaos. The cast includes Taffy, Bansy, Alan, Mechanika, and Dila.
