Saros: Housemarque's Next Hit After Returnal, Coming 2026

Author: Aiden May 15,2025

Housemarque has unveiled Saros, the eagerly anticipated sequel to their 2022 roguelite shooter, Returnal. Set to launch in 2026 exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and optimized for the PS5 Pro, Saros stars Rahul Kohli as Arjun Devraj, a Solatri enforcer on a mission to uncover truths on a perilous, ever-changing planet shrouded in mystery and dominated by an eclipse and a formidable entity.

Showcased during the latest PlayStation State of Play, Saros unmistakably bears the signature style of Housemarque. As players navigate this treacherous world, the mantra "come back stronger" hints at its roguelike nature, while the display of fireballs underscores the developer's penchant for bullet-hell gameplay.

Creative director Gregory Louden describes Saros as the "ultimate evolution" of Housemarque's gameplay-centric approach. While it introduces a fresh single-player narrative, it builds upon the third-person action mechanics established in Returnal. However, Louden emphasizes a significant gameplay differentiation: Saros introduces permanent resources and progression. Although the world shifts with each player's demise, players can now permanently enhance their weapons and suits.

Further details are slated for release later this year, with Housemarque planning to unveil an extended gameplay demonstration.
