Unveiling the New Trailer

The Silent Hill Transmission, aired March 13, 2025, offered fans a deeper look at Silent Hill f, including a captivating new trailer. Instead of the familiar American small town setting, Silent Hill f transports players to 1960s Japan.

The game's narrative follows Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose life is irrevocably altered when her town is enveloped in a terrifying fog, undergoing a horrifying transformation. Hinako must navigate this unrecognizable landscape, solving puzzles, battling strange enemies, and ultimately confronting a deeply unsettling choice. This is a tale of confronting a beautiful, yet terrifying decision.

Silent Hill f is set in the fictional Japanese town of Ebisugaoka, inspired by a real-life location in Kanayama, Gero, Gifu Prefecture. The developers meticulously recreated the town, capturing its intricate alleyways using reference photos, recorded ambient sounds, and historical materials to accurately portray the 1960s era.

Finding Beauty in Terror

According to Silent Hill series producer Motoi Okamoto, the core concept behind Silent Hill f is to "find the beauty in terror." While retaining the series' signature psychological horror, the team aimed to explore the unique nuances of a Japanese setting.

Okamoto explains, "Japanese horror often presents terror within beauty. Exquisite beauty, when taken to extremes, can become profoundly unsettling. Players will experience this world through the eyes of a young girl facing a beautiful, yet terrifying, choice."

A Standalone Silent Hill Experience

Okamoto emphasizes that Silent Hill f is a standalone story, accessible to newcomers to the series. Long-time fans, however, can expect subtle easter eggs and familiar elements. The game is also tailored to appeal to fans of Ryukishi07, renowned for his psychological Japanese horror visual novels.

Ryukishi07, a longtime Silent Hill fan, has played every game in the series. He describes the development process as a return to the series' roots while also presenting new challenges. A major hurdle was creating a true Silent Hill experience without relying on the titular town.

He states, "As a creator, I'm confident we've made a genuine Silent Hill game. However, we're eager to hear from long-time fans and see if they agree."

Silent Hill f is now available to wishlist on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. A release date is yet to be announced. For the latest updates on Silent Hill f, check out our related article!
