Simpsons Producer: Character Death Episode Not Canon

The executive producer of The Simpsons, Matt Selman, has clarified that a recent episode depicting the fallout from a major character's death should not be treated as official series lore — because the show essentially operates with "no fixed canon."

In fact, Selman indicated that the storyline from the Season 36 finale, "Estranger Things," will probably never be mentioned again in future episodes.
