Physical Edition Contains Complete Base Game on 64GB Cartridge

Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is coming to Switch 2, with its physical edition housing the entire base game on a 64GB cartridge. SEGA confirmed on the official game website on July 16 that CrossWorlds will debut digitally in holiday 2025, while the physical version follows in early 2026.

Despite Nintendo's recent shift toward game key cards for physical releases, SEGA has chosen to include the full experience on a 64GB cartridge, letting players dive right in without additional downloads. A $10 upgrade from Switch to Switch 2 will also be available, transferring game progress seamlessly.

The Switch 2 edition will join the game's cross-platform matchmaking, enabling play across all supported systems. Unfortunately, the Limited Run Games Collector's Edition won't be offered for Switch 2. Nintendo plans to share further details about the Switch 2 release in upcoming announcements.

New Trailer Showcases Over 70,000 Unique Customization Options

Following the Switch 2 launch news, SEGA released a new trailer highlighting extensive customization and gadgets. In their July 17 video, the Sonic team demonstrated CrossWorlds' vast array of combinations—over 70,000 possibilities—allowing players to design their ideal racing machine.

"With more than 40 vehicles, 70-plus gadgets, and over 100 vehicle parts and decals, you can personalize and fine-tune your ride in countless ways," the video description notes. Beyond aesthetics, the game introduces gadget combos that provide strategic advantages during races.

Players can mix and match gadgets to create powerful sets, like the Heavy Hitter Bounty set that uses rockets to disrupt rivals, the Air Trick Expert for stylish mid-air maneuvers, and the Radio Spin Knockback to force opponents off course. These tools help players "strategize, build, and race their way to victory."

SEGA Account Holders Get Exclusive Blue Star Vehicle

As a special promotion, SEGA is granting an exclusive vehicle—the Blue Star—to CrossWorlds players with SEGA accounts. This hoverboard-style machine is a SEGA Account Bonus for users who link their account to their gaming platform. The offer is available from September 25 through October 31 only.

With premium bonuses, rewards, and anticipated crossovers featuring Hatsune Miku, Persona, Yakuza, and more, CrossWorlds is shaping up to be the most ambitious installment in the racing series yet.
