Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.
This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, was detailed on the PlayStation Blog. Sony stated that PS4 games will no longer be a core benefit of the subscription, only appearing occasionally in the Monthly Games and Games Catalog. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will stay accessible until their scheduled removal.
Sony emphasized its commitment to enhancing PlayStation Plus, promising continued improvements to benefits such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company's focus on PS5 is expected to bring a steady stream of new PS5 titles to the monthly offerings.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony notes a significant player shift towards PS5, influencing this decision. The company hasn't confirmed whether PS4 games will transition to the Classics Catalog (currently featuring PlayStation, PS2, and PS3 titles), but further announcements are expected closer to the date.
