South Park creators enlist tough negotiator in $3B clash

The highly anticipated Season 27 premiere of South Park faces uncertainty as creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone remain locked in negotiations with Paramount Global and prospective studio owner Skydance regarding a massive $3 billion contract.

Earlier this month, Parker and Stone publicly criticized Paramount's two-week delay of Season 27's premiere in a characteristically unfiltered social media post.

"This merger situation has become a complete disaster and it's seriously impacting South Park," the duo stated. "We're currently working on new episodes at the studio, though whether audiences will get to see them remains uncertain."

Season 26 premiered in March 2023 with just six episodes, followed by three additional specials released between October 2023 and March 2024.

The Hollywood Reporter reveals the current conflict centers on a proposed 10-year, $3 billion comprehensive agreement that would significantly increase valuation compared to their existing deal expiring in 2027.

The situation appears headed toward litigation, with Parker and Stone retaining Bryan Freedman - a noted entertainment attorney recognized for aggressive negotiation tactics. Potential legal action could involve allegations of Skydance interfering with contract discussions.

Reports indicate Skydance maintains approval rights over contracts while awaiting finalization of its Paramount merger. The production company reportedly views the decade-long proposed contract as excessively lengthy for maintaining operational flexibility.

With Season 27 currently scheduled for July 23, its launch window remains uncertain. Following the expiration of South Park streaming agreements on June 30, Warner Bros. Discovery extended its domestic license to keep the series on HBO Max, though Paramount+ removed the show internationally last week.
