Nintendo Halts Regular Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4 Anticipation Mounts as an Era Concludes
Nintendo has announced the conclusion of regular content updates for Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, alongside ongoing monthly challenges and necessary weapon balance patches.
The official Twitter (X) announcement stated: "After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates will conclude. Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will continue, with some returning themes! Weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for now."
This announcement followed the September 16th Grand Festival, concluding Splatoon 3's major Splatfest events. A commemorative video showcasing past Splatfests and the Deep Cut trio's performance at the Grand Festival was also released. Nintendo's closing message was a heartfelt "Thanks for holding down the Splatlands with us—it's been a blast!"
Splatoon 3's two-year run has ended, leading to increased speculation about a sequel. Fans have pointed to potential easter eggs or hints within the Grand Festival event, suggesting a new city setting for a future Splatoon game.
Responding to images of a futuristic city location, one fan commented, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others remain unconvinced, suggesting the location is simply a variation of Splatsville from the game's opening.
While no official announcement regarding Splatoon 4 exists, rumors have persisted for months, suggesting Nintendo has begun development on a Switch sequel. The Grand Festival, being the final major Splatfest, further fuels fan belief in an imminent release.
Previous Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, and Splatoon 3's event might hint at a "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4. However, confirmation from Nintendo is still awaited.
