Oscar Isaac's Star Wars Celebration 2025 Appearance Fuels Poe Dameron Return Speculation

Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac's confirmed appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Tokyo (April 18-20) has ignited speculation about a potential return of his character, Poe Dameron. The announcement, made via the official Star Wars Celebration Instagram, follows Daisy Ridley's 2023 Celebration appearance, where she announced her involvement in a new Star Wars film. This has led fans to wonder if Isaac will make a similar announcement.

Isaac's relationship with the Star Wars franchise has been complex. Following the conclusion of the Sequel Trilogy in 2019 with The Rise of Skywalker, he initially expressed reluctance to reprise his role, stating in 2020 that he'd only return for "another house or something." However, by 2022, he had softened his stance, telling Variety he was "open to anything."

He's also been vocal about his disappointment with Disney's handling of the Sequel Trilogy, particularly their rejection of his proposed romance between Poe and Finn (John Boyega's character). Boyega, who also expressed negative feelings towards Disney and the franchise after the Sequel Trilogy, has similarly hinted at openness to future roles.

This confluence of factors has fueled speculation about a possible reunion of the Sequel Trilogy's main trio – Rey, Finn, and Poe – in the upcoming Rey film. This film, set approximately 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker, will focus on Rey's efforts to rebuild the Jedi Order. Ridley has already expressed her hope for Boyega's return, making Poe's inclusion a logical next step to complete the trio.

However, definitive answers may be some time coming. Disney's repeated delays of several announced Star Wars films have pushed back the release date of the Rey film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, to a potential earliest release of December 17, 2027. While Star Wars Celebration 2025 might offer some clues, fans will likely have a considerable wait before any concrete announcements are made.
