Ryan Gosling in Talks to Star in Shawn Levy's Star Wars Film
Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool and Wolverine, is reportedly on the verge of embarking on a Star Wars adventure, bringing Ryan Gosling along for the ride. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Levy's Star Wars project is in negotiations with Gosling for the lead role. Levy has been developing this film since 2022, with a screenplay in progress since last year. He's re-teaming with Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter of This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project, both Levy-directed films.
Plot details remain under wraps, with no information yet on Gosling's potential character or the film's historical placement within the Star Wars timeline. However, it's confirmed to be unrelated to the Skywalker Saga. The Hollywood Reporter also indicates the film is intended as a standalone movie, ruling out a planned trilogy.

Gosling's potential involvement has reportedly accelerated the project's timeline. While Levy was previously attached to a boy band film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, THR suggests that Gosling's confirmation would prioritize the Star Wars film, pushing its production start to this fall.
Star Wars is currently navigating a transitional phase. Following the cancellation of The Acolyte, Disney+ recently concluded its Skeleton Crew series. On the film front, Dave Filoni's Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed production in December, targeting a May 22, 2026 release. A new trilogy focusing on Daisy Ridley's Rey is also in the works.
A release date for Levy's Star Wars film remains unannounced, pending its progress this year. For a comprehensive overview of upcoming Star Wars content, consult our preview of Star Wars in 2025.
