Sony's June 2025 State of Play showcase achieved a new peak viewership record for the company.

Sony launched the summer gaming reveal season with an impressive lineup, offering a diverse array of upcoming titles to build excitement ahead of Summer Games Fest Week. The presentation included reveals for 007 First Light, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, Romeo is a Dead Man, and Silent Hill f.

Streams Charts reported that this week's State of Play reached a historic high of over 2.2 million simultaneous live viewers—the highest in the series to date. Based on the site's compiled data, the event now stands as the third most-watched gaming or tech showcase of 2025 by peak concurrent viewership. Only two Nintendo Direct broadcasts attracted larger audiences, with Nintendo's Switch 2 reveal understandably taking the top spot by a significant margin.

As noted by Push Square, this State of Play was not Sony's most-watched livestream ever—that title still belongs to the PS5 reveal event, which has amassed 44 million views to date. The Horizon Forbidden West and Horizon Forbidden Dawn reveal streams also drew massive audiences, accumulating 15 and 10 million views respectively. Nevertheless, Tuesday’s broadcast is by far the most successful State of Play showcase to date.

The presentation was heavily focused on third-party developers, particularly Japanese studios, with major announcements from Capcom, Grasshopper Manufacture, Konami, ArtPlay, Square Enix, and Team Ninja. The event featured surprisingly few first-party titles.

This year’s summer showcase also appeared tailored toward dedicated gamers, with a noticeable emphasis on action-oriented games—many of which are expected to receive mature or 18+ ratings.
